Our Job from Psalm 23
How little we actually bring to the table
I did a discovery Bible study on Psalm 23 with some guys recently. A couple of lists jumped off the page at me:
What I Do, from Psalm 23
Don’t want.
Walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
What God Does, from Psalm 23
He is my shepherd.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
He is with me.*
He comforts me through his rod and staff.
He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
He anoints my head with oil.**
Results
*I will fear no evil.
**My cup overflows.
Goodness and love will follow me.
I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
So, to reiterate, my main jobs in this walk with the Lord are ‘not wanting’ and ‘walking through the valley.’ He does all of the heavy lifting.
Keep walking.
Stop wanting.
Not easy, but simple.

Great reminder! Kind of humbling actually :}
